(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Berwyn man has been arrested in connection to a 2022 road-rage shooting that left a 3-year-old boy dead.

Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Antoinette Ursitti told reporters at Police Headquarters that officers arrested 32-year-old Giovanni Hernandez in the death of Mateo Zastro.

Hernandez has been charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and murder with a strong possibility of death or injury.

The boy was riding in the backseat of his mother's SUV when shots were fired during an argument in West Town on the Southwest Side. Mateo’s three other siblings were riding in the SUV at the time.

Police say Hernandez had no connection to Mateo's family.

Hernandez is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
