(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s hard to miss if you drive the Kennedy Expressway: the huge Pride Month mural near Ashland.

“It’s literally like 1,500 pounds of vinyl. It’s like three or four billboards worth of material,” says artist David Anthony Geary.

Howard Brown Health chose the 46-year-old Chicago native to design the mural on the Wintrust Building. The three words that accompany his art: “History, Community, Pride.”

Geary, who identifies as queer, says it’s designed to reach both the queer community and the straight community.

“It’s kind of the same message for both sets of folks: This is monumental. We are present. We are worthy of being monumentalized. And there is no way for you not to see us.”
