(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Batavia police have charged a local man with felonies after they said he ran over a relative’s cat multiple times.

It happened one month ago, but Batavia police said 36-year-old Brennan Loeffler turned himself in on Saturday.

Authorities said an employee of a business near Wilson Street and Van Nortwick Avenue called them on Aug. 4 to report that they found a dead cat in a box in their dumpster. Security camera footage from the night before showed that a person ran over the cat with a car several times before leaving it in the dumpster.

Using the cat’s microchip, police found its owner and identified Loeffler — who is related to that person — as the one responsible.

He faces up to five years in prison, if convicted. Police did not share a motive.
