Thinking about adding a new furry friend to your family?

A new study shows you how to spot pet scammers before they can take a bite out of your bank account. Jordan Wright with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM has the details.

Online shopping scams top the charts nationwide, and pet scams are among the most heartbreaking—and costly. A new BBB study warns that artificial intelligence is making these scams harder to spot.

Fraudsters post fake listings with cute photos and even AI-generated videos. People pay for pets that don’t exist, then get hit with more demands for money.

Only buy from reputable sellers and see the pet in person. Or insist on a live video call with the pet and seller before paying. Do a reverse image search on pet photos and beware of “purebred” pets offered free or at deep discounts.
