As you set your New Year’s resolutions, make protecting yourself from scams your top priority.

Kayla Palmore with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM Newsradio has some tips.

Every day, people lose money and personal information to sophisticated schemes. The impact can be devastating. Don’t let it happen to you.

Be on high alert with emails, texts, and social media messages. If something feels off, even from a friend, it could be a phishing attempt.

Never click links or call numbers in suspicious messages. Always verify communications directly with the source.

Avoid any non-traditional forms of payment like gift cards or wires.

Create strong, unique passwords for all your accounts, and review your credit reports and bank statements regularly.

Make it a priority to share these tips with your family and friends.

Here’s to a happy and scam-free New Year!
