(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 28-year-old Beach Park man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
The attack happened in June 2021 as the girl walked along the Robert McClory Bike Path.
Police said at the time, the girl was walking alone when a man came out of a wooded area and sexually assaulted the girl.
Her screams were heard by someone nearby.
The man, later identified by a hair sample found at the scene, as Tramane Johnson, was tracked by a Lake County Sheriff’s K9 to a parking lot.
He was already gone.
Fortunately, the hair sample got a hit in the CODIS database. Johnson had been previously arrested on a weapon charge and his DNA was in the system. He was arrested less than two weeks later.
Johnson reached a plea deal with prosecutors in exchange for the 15 year sentence.
