'We're Ready': Chicago Board Of Elections Prepared For Record Number Vote-By-Mail Applications

Vote By Mail

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Board of Elections is dealing with a record number of vote by mail applications.

“We are very happy to report that by Monday, we’ve received over 400,000 vote-by-mail applications.”

Board Chairwoman Marisel Hernandez said the historic number doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, since the board has been pushing for more votes by mail for quite some time.

“In short, it’s safe, reliable, and secure,” she said. “We’re just happy to see so many people taking part in such an important election.”

While the board has plenty of experience juggling vote by mail applications, early voting and Election Day voting, Hernandez said they’re not used to this amount of work to do, but the city is prepared.

“We have extra equipment, we have extra personnel and we have a larger space to take care of all of these vote by mail applications. We’re ready," she said.
