CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago mother is grieving after her son was identified as the person found in the trunk of a burning car in Bridgeport early Friday morning.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said the 15-year-old boy died from gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. The office has not released the boy's name, but crisis responder Andrew Holmes said the teen was a freshman at Menta Academy.
The boy lived with his mom on the North Side, and Holmes told reporters that his mother talked about how the boy's smile would light up a room.
He was shot in another part of the city before he was taken by car to an alley near 37th Street and Parnell Avenue, where it was set on fire.
Police believe the car was stolen from a repair shop in Lansing, Holmes said.
Holmes and other community activists asked Bridgeport residents to check their security cameras for any leads on who's responsible.
