A Boy Scout leader and former teacher is charged with sex crimes in Kane County.

The Kane County State's Attorney says 56-year-old Richard J. Reynolds, of the 400 block of Logan Street in Rockford, sent direct messages via social media asking someone under the age of 17 to perform sexual acts, make a photographic record of the acts and share the photos with him.

This happened prosecutors say between September 2019 and March 2021, when Reynolds was on the Blackhawks Area Council the Boy Scouts of America and also co-director of a Boy Scout camp. The alleged victim knew Reynolds drew Reynolds association with the scouts.

The Daily Herald reports Reynolds taught at St. Peter Catholic School from 1998 to 2019, then at All Saints Catholic Academy and was hired at Holy Family Catholic School, also in Rockford, but resigned while under investigation.

Richards was taken into custody by the Kane County sheriff on Wednesday. He then posted $4,000 bond and was released. His next court date is Feb. 28.
