(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Days ahead of his inauguration, Chicago Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson says he's already hard at work.

The former teacher and County Board commissioner had a whirlwind week, traveling to Washington D.C. to meet with the vice president and leaders of Illinois congressional delegation, naming top staffers, including his financial team, and preparing for Monday’s swearing-in.

If you ask if him if he’s had time to catch his breath, Johnson doesn’t complain, but it’s clear the answer is no. He tells WBBM Newsradio he’s been carried along by the excitement of his April 4 win against Paul Vallas.

“There is a tremendous opportunity for us to do something transformational, but it’s going to take all hands on deck,” he said Friday at his transition office in the Loop.

Johnson said he has already been working with Interim Police Supt.
Fred Waller on public safety plans for the summer and with other officials on dealing with the waves of migrants still arriving in Chicago.

Johnson is the guest on “At Issue” this weekend. The program airs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
