CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Sky have a new mascot.

She’s Skye the Lioness. Her face is yellow, her body sky blue, and the first pictures of Skye have her wearing a Sky-Town hoops jersey and black, pinstripe shorts.

Those first photos were, of course, taken as Skye posed with the iconic lions that guard the entrance to the Art Institute of Chicago.

Sky officials said the lioness embodies “strength, feminine power, grace and courage.”

The Sky have had Sky Guy — a pale blue rocketeer — as their mascot since 2006. In a statement, Chicago Sky Chief Marketing Officers Tania Haladner said they “appreciate the Sky Guy for his years of service and commitment to sharing his expertise with Skye.”

He’ll continue in that role for the rest of this season, but Skye will debut next to him on Wednesday night.
