(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 1936 police car from Carpentersville is back home in the northwest suburb, after spending years outside a home in Colorado as yard art.
How the car ended up in Colorado is a mystery, Trustee Humberto Garcia says.
The classic-car lover came across a picture of the vintage vehicle on Facebook and arranged to buy it for $2,000.
It took some time to haul the car back to Carpentersville on a trailer because of the COVID pandemic, Garcia said.
Now, his dream is to put the vehicle on display at the Carpentersville Village Hall, next to a vintage firetruck. It would be a tribute to first-responders, Garcia said.
The official owns an auto shop and has volunteered to restore the police car, which will needs a lot of work because it spent so much time outdoors. He estimates the cost to replace all the parts could top $30,000.
The village has organized a fundraising campaign to support the effort.
