CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Should Obamacare be repealed, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said the impact on county residents and government would be devastating.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said if the Affordable Care Act is repealed more than 300,000 Cook County residents would lose coverage with no backup plan.

"Here's the bottom line, the repeal of the ACA would not only financially cripple Cook County health by dramatically increasing the amount of uncompensated health care we provide, it would be catastrophic for the patients we serve," she said.

Preckwinkle said this should not be a political issue. She noted we have been down this road before and rational minds have always prevailed, but she said we are at a different point today.

Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky said it is really hard to imagine anything more cruel.

"What kind of malice would it take," she said. "It it really hard to imagine anything more cruel, especially at this moment of dire need in this country."
