CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Archdiocese of Chicago school superintendent has made a decision on the lifting of the mask mandate in some Catholic schools in Cook and Lake counties.
In a letter to school families overnight, Archdiocese of Chicago Schools Superintendent Greg Richmond said some Catholic schools will be going mask-optional starting Thursday. Others will continue to require masks.
In Lake County and all Cook County suburbs, except Oak Park and Evanston, Catholic schools will be mask-optional.
In the City of Chicago, Oak Park, and Evanston, masks will continue to be required, because the local health departments require them.
Supt. Richmond wrote in the letter that currently there are no classrooms in quarantine in any Archdiocese school and that no schools have more than 3 percent of their students currently testing positive for COVID
Supt. Richmond added that in mask-optional schools, students who had been isolated or quarantined because of COVID must wear a mask during Day 6 through 10.
Additionally, Richmond said any student or staffer who wants to continue to wear a mask is encouraged to do so.
