CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) Chicago firefighters say something needs to change to prevent the increase in firefighter deaths.
Chicago fire department Captain Tony Martin said four Chicago firefighters have died this year.
The latest is 39-year-old EMT Andrew Price. He died Monday after Price died after falling through a roof while responding to a fire in Lincoln Park.
Kevin Ward, Jermaine Pelt, and Jan Tchoryk are the three other Chicago firefighters who died while on duty this year.
Martin told CBS 2 how difficult it was to speak with Price's family.
"I can never remember a period of time like this in the city of Chicago," he said.
"I think it's hard for every member of this department -- firefighter, paramedic, it doesn't matter. I've seen it all."
Since 2007, Martin has lead a charitable fund to raise money to benefit the families of fallen firefighters, but he said more needs to be done to prevent these deaths from happening.
