A chef at a highly-rated North Side restaurant is recovering after being beaten and thrown onto a set of CTA tracks.

Jose Duran, 28, was attacked a week and a half ago on the platform at Division and Milwaukee along the Blue Line. According to a friend who has set up a GoFundMe page, Duran had been headed home from work at the restaurant Schwa when he was attacked and pushed onto the tracks.

Duran has undergone a number of medical procedures and will need more facial surgery. According to his friend Danielle Garcia, Duran’s jaw is wired shut for the next few weeks. The GoFundMe page has generated more than $39,000 so far.

Police arrested 33-year old Cory Patterson who is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery to a police officer.
