CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago area will continue to experience a heat wave that has produced sweltering and oppressive conditions the last two days.
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for counties such as Grundy, Kankakee and Southern Will, and it is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday. With the combination of extreme heat and humidity, peak afternoon heat indices could reach 110 degrees, the NWS says. Those working outdoors or participating in outdoor activities are at great risk for heat related illnesses.
For other areas, including Kendall, Southern Cook, Northern and Eastern Will Counties in Illinois as well as Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana, a Heat Advisory is in place until 9 p.m. Friday. The NWS says it could feel as hot as 107 in those areas. Closer to Lake Michigan it will be a tad cooler.
Similar conditions are expected tomorrow, but that should be the last day of dangerous heat.
AccuWeather projects a storm front to roll through tomorrow night, and, in its wake, will bring cooler temperatures and lowered humidity.
By Saturday, it will be noticeably cooler and more comfortable, with sunshine and a high of 81.
