CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot has cut off liquor sales at 9 p.m., under new restrictions effective Friday she hopes will reverse the surge of new coronavirus cases.

With 8:45 becoming "last call," things will be different for bars all over the city, including in Northalsted, formerly known as Boystown.

Brad Balof, general manager at Sidetrack, said they'll make it work.

"We are happy and willing to do whatever it is we need to do to adhere to the guidelines that are put forward by the mayor," Balof said. "It does not feel great to have your business restricted, but we will continue to do what is best for everyone to get through this and do business while we can."

Pre-pandemic, Sidetrack was open until 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on the weekends. Then 10 p.m. Then 1 a.m. recently. Now, 9 p.m.

Bars that do not serve food cannot have indoor service. All non-essential businesses will be under a 10 p.m. curfew, Lightfoot said Thursday.

She has said Chicago is experiencing a second surge of coronavirus.

"I beg you to take this case surge seriously. It is frightening," Lightfoot said.
