Another Chicago Bears win means big business for viral 'cheese grater' hat company: 'To be part of this entire season has been magical'

When the Bears win, so does Manuel Rojas.

"It's been crazy, to say the least," he said. "We are just producing around 500 to 750 of these hats every single day just to catch up with everything."

Rojas is the co-owner of Foam Party Hats, which makes the viral foam "graterhead" hats Bears fans and players have been wearing at the team's games against the Packers.

We last caught up with Rojas last month after the Bears' overtime win over the Packers drew thousands of people to Foam Party Hats. Rojas said orders had been settling down until the Bears beat the Packers again at the last minute Saturday night.

"When the Bears beat the Packers Saturday, we got around 1,500 orders just under those 24 hours," Rojas said. "And all of those orders are on back order all the way to March."

But Rojas said this time, the company was prepared. They hired additional staff and even implemented an overnight shift to stay on top of orders. There are still over 10,000 prospective customers on a waitlist for the hats.

After the Bears' win Saturday, which was their first playoff victory in 15 years, quarterback Caleb Williams, receiver DJ Moore and tight end Colston Loveland were seen wearing the foam hats during their appearance on the postgame show.

Rojas said he did not watch the game, as he had to run a marathon Sunday, but that he woke up to some much welcomed chaos.

"I woke up at 4:30 in the morning, and then I see all my messages and emails and whatnot," he said. "This is absolute insanity. We're just really happy that it happened."

Now, Rojas is looking for other ways to tap into the NFL fandom. He said he's already brainstorming ideas for next season.

"We do want to pursue an NFL license," he said. "I think this is going to open a lot of doors for us. We already have some prototypes for different teams, and we also have some things for the Bears as well."

On the Foam Party Hats TikTok, for example, Rojas can be seen wearing a foam helmet with the Bears logo, an item he said he hopes sell in the future.

"We have got a zillion emails asking for those hats," he said. "So we know already we have something that we can take advantage og moving forward."

He said he thinks much of the popularity of the hats also comes from the company's story of the inspiration behind the graterhead hats. They were designed after the company received a cease and desist letter from the Packers demanding that they taken down their own version of the "cheese hat."

"It is like a David against Goliath story, and I think people resonate a lot given the cease and desist letter," he said. "We receive at least 20 emails a day, just of people sending 'Thank you for everything,' 'Go Bears!' and all that stuff."

Rojas said he's even received orders from high-profile people, such as Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, whose husband is Bears safety Jonathan Owens. American DJ Kaskade has also reached out to purchase a hat.

And the Bears themselves have contacted the company, too.

"The head of merchandising reached out to us. We tried to do a special edition cheese grater hat for the playoff game but because of all the hurdles of getting the license, it was a time constraint," he said. "But the Bears sent us a 'thank you' package. They sent us a T-shirt and a small helmet."

He said he still has not been able to process everything but is just grateful for the support from fans.

"The only thing that I can say is that we are really, really grateful for all the love from people," he said. "Just how positive it has been, the love that we receive from the fan base and all the messages and how happy people are. Just being able to be part of this entire season has been magical, to say the least."

And while Rojas isn't a huge football fan, he said he is definitely a Bears fan and will continue rooting for the team, as fans continue to sport the iconic foam grater head hat.

"I think it has become an insignia for the season," he said. "Not only for beating the Packers, but just through the whole playoff run. Hopefully they get to the Super Bowl and win it, and maybe the hat can go as a charm or amulet for the season. That's what we hope for."
