CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A filmmaker who grew up outside Chicago will unveil his movie on opening night of the Chicago International Film Festival next week.

Writer and producer Jose Nateras grew up in Elmhurst, went to Loyola University and now lives in Los Angeles. He came back home to make his movie, "Departing Seniors."

"It's about this main character who is a gay, Mexican American high schooler in the Chicagoland area, and this active bullying kind of gets a little bit too intense, something goes wrong, he ends up in the hospital," Nateras revealed. "When he wakes up from the hospital, he's experiencing these unexplainable psychic visions that slowly reveal that was thought to be a rash of tragic teen suicide is actually the work of a serial killer."

Nateras filmed his movie in various Chicago area locations, including Rogers Park, the city's South Side, Berwyn and Lockport.

"Departing Seniors" is a horror-comedy and will be shown at the Music Box Theatre on opening night of the film festival, next week, October 11.

"We're going to be on the big screen…We're really excited to have a hometown crowd show up and show out and get to enjoy 'Departing Seniors,'" Nateras said.
