Logan Square residents might notice some new improvements to Milwaukee Avenue, following completion of the Logan Square Redesign and Milwaukee Avenue Reconstruction project.
Construction of the project began in the spring of 2024. City leaders and Logan Square community members held a ribbon cutting for the project's completion Monday morning.
"This new space includes public green spaces, improved pedestrian access, modernized traffic signals and street lights, wider sidewalks and more safety features for pedestrians and bike riders," said Mayor Brandon Johnson.

He said the project transforms Milwaukee Avenue from Belmont Avenue to Logan Square through a comprehensive reconstruction of the corridor, anchored by the redesign of Logan Square itself.
It also creates a new public plaza next to the Logan Square CTA Blue Line Station called La Placita, which celebrates the community’s Latin American heritage.

"Chicagoan deserve to feel safe while walking to school, biking to work, taking public transportation or just driving through their neighborhood," Johnson said. "I know that it is just as important to represent the diverse people, cultures, heritages and people that make up the greatest city in the world."
Alderman Anthony Quezada (35th) thanked several people who were involved with the project's construction.
"This project would not have been possible without the leadership of elected officials at the federal, state, county and city levels, the advocacy of numerous community organizations, the patience and support of dozens of small businesses and, of course, the labor of countless workers who poured their blood, sweat and tears into making this vision a reality," he said.
