Chicago Marathon sifts through record number of applicants

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Tens of thousands of people are finding out whether they made the cut to run next year's Chicago Marathon.

This year was record breaking. Organizers say a whopping 120,000 people applied to qualify for the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon

The race is gearing up for a massive 50,000 participants, breaking last year's record of 47,000.

If you snagged a spot, you're joining the ranks of legacy finishers and time qualifiers from around the globe.

The door isn’t entirely closed for runners. You can still start training for the Oct. 13 race by teaming up with a charity crew. There are over 200 non-profits in the mix, covering causes like education, youth development, healthcare and social services.

If you run for a charity, you've got to drum up a minimum of $1,750 to get in.
