CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Downtown businesses are prepared for unrest but hope for calm.

The city of Chicago has implemented a security plan for election week, with the idea that the presidential decision could trigger disturbances. The Loop and other districts have already suffered two rounds of looting and destruction.

Rich Gamble, chairman of the Magnificent Mile Association board, on Monday said Chicago police have been meeting with members regularly. He said he doesn't know of any credible threats.

“But, out of an abundance of caution, there are city assets that are staged in a variety of areas throughout the Central Business District to ensure that if a rapid response is needed on a geographic basis, there’s an ability to activate a variety of different results,” he said.

The association has more than 600 members. Some of them still have their businesses protectively boarded up.

Also Monday, Gov. JB Pritzker said the Illinois National Guard is at the ready in case local governments need help dealing with protests and unrest.
