(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – After a popular mural in the Rogers Park neighborhood was recently tagged with graffiti, the artist who created the mural is responding.
The colorful mural of fish from Lake Michigan on a viaduct at Pratt and Glenwood was created 11 years ago by Amanda Paulson, who says seeing the graffiti was disappointing.
Paulson says she put an anti-graffiti coating on the mural.
“Technically, it’s supposed to be durable enough to power-wash and try to remove the graffiti without damaging the painting underneath,” she said.
But Paulson says it might be time for a new mural with a new theme to give the neighborhood some fresh art that also reflects her evolving style.

She says she'd be willing to replace the mural with a new work, if the city would be willing to pay for it.
49th Ward Ald. Maria Hadden posted on Facebook about the mural vandalism and urged residents to report graffiti to her office as soon as possible.
