CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A popular summer music festival helped boost the Chicago Park District revenue last year.
The Park District reached record-breaking numbers-thanks to Lollapalooza.
The Chicago Tribune reports that festival organizer C3 Presents paid $9.6 million dollars in fees to use Grant Park for the four-day festival.
Part of the boost was also due to a new contract, which allowed organizers to sell tickets to 15,000 additional attendees per day.
“The increased attendance threshold assisted in generating additional revenue that directly support parks and programs citywide and allowed even more people to attend the signature summer music festival in Grant Park," Park District spokeswoman Michele Lemons said in a statement given to the Tribune.
The deal also allows for revenue sharing, where the park district gets a cut of merchandise sales.
A C3-commissioned economic impact report found that Lollapalooza contributed $422 million to the local economy in 2023 through extra work and tax revenue from attendees spending on lodging, food and drink, and visits to other entertainment venues for after-shows, according to the Tribune.
