CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said detectives have “very strong leads” in the fatal shooting of 8-year-old Melissa Ortega.
Brown said the last few days have been hard for the family of Melissa Ortega, the Little Village neighborhood and for the men and women of the Chicago police.
“This is really hard. But we must all rise to this occasion. Over the weekend, Melissa had her entire family stripped away in an instant. The fact is, we have too many hard days just like this in Chicago,” Brown said.
The superintendent also provided an update on the investigation, saying, “We do have people cooperating with us right now, and we do have very strong leads.”
Police said they will “saturate the area” to address the gang conflict that led to the gunfire that killed Melissa Ortega.
