CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Police Department said it is looking for a crew of armed robbers who they say went on a spree Wednesday morning in Edgewater.
In less than a half-hour, Chicago police said the crew conducted four different holdups.
Starting just after midnight near Bryn Mawr Avenue and Sheridan Road on Chicago's North Side, police said the trio robbed two men after telling them to lie on the ground.
Police said they struck again two blocks away only minutes later.
The robberies escalated outside an apartment building near Balmoral Avenue and Winthrop Avenue, where Chicago police said one of the robbers shot a man in the thigh.
Police said the 44-year-old man was taken to the hospital in good condition.
Suspects did not succeed in an attempted carjacking near Addison Street and Pine Grove Avenue, police said.
A community alert said the three men, between 18 and 30 years old, were wearing ski masks and hoodies. Authorities said the crew was driving a silver car, possibly a Hyundai.
Police warned residents not to follow muggers and reminded them to get contact information for anyone who witnessed a crime.
