(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For the first time in recent memory, the Gene Siskel Film Center is offering a series of very long films - some as long as 13 hours. And the series is aptly called “Settle In.”
The Gene Siskel Film Center website includes the advice: “Feel free to bring a pillow.”
And the center’s director of programming, Rebecca Fons, says this past weekend, one man did.
“He opened the bag and a huge pillow sort of burst out of the bag. And he said, ‘Oh that’s from my hotel. I flew from New York for this.’”
He was there for a showing of “Out 1,” clocking in at just a touch under 13 hours.
This Saturday is “La Flor,” which runs 13 hours, 28 minutes -- or roughly the time it takes to fly from Chicago to Dubai. It begins at 10 a.m. Alert the babysitter because the credits don’t roll until just past midnight.
“But after this one of ‘La Flor,’ they get easy,” Fons said. “‘Dekalog’ is like 9 1/2 hours. ‘Satantango’ is just over 7. And then ‘War and Peace’ is like 7 1/2 hours.’”
Fons says ticket sales have been robust. She said $36 includes one film and bottomless popcorn.
And coffee.
