CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago victim of serial killer Larry Eyler has been positively identified, forty years after his body was found, buried at an abandoned farm in Northwest Indiana.
Keith Lavell Bibbs was 16 in 1983 when he was drugged, murdered and buried in a shallow grave in Lake Village, about 60 miles from Chicago.
His body was among four found at the time, after Larry Eyler confessed to involvement in 21 murders between 1982 and 1984.
The others found at the farm had been previously identified.
Eyler, who became known as the “Highway Killer,” died in prison of AIDS-related complications in 1994.
The bodies of most victims were found near interstates. The DNA Doe Project was instrumental in this case.
"This significant breakthrough comes after years of exhaustive efforts, and it brings closure to a case that has puzzled investigators and haunted families for decades," said the project's Pam Lauritzen.
