CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago woman who's alleged to have shot a man to death in March outside a bar near Elmhurst has been charged with first-degree murder.

It was about 2 a.m. on March 26 when Cook County sheriff's deputies responded to a report that a person had been shot in the parking lot of Galway Bar and Grill in unincorporated Proviso Township.

Detectives determined that two groups had been involved in a fight in the bar and it continued outside and was captured on surveillance video.

The sheriff's office said Robin Thornton was seen taking a handgun from her waistband and shooting 28-year-old Dominique Bynum in the chest. Thornton and others were then seen speeding away on Roosevelt Road.

Bynum, who lived in Melrose Park, later died at Elmhurst Hospital.

Thornton was arrested earlier this week at her home on Chicago's South Side, nearly a month after the shooting.

A gun matching the caliber of a shell casing found at the scene was found during a search of her home, according to the sheriff's office, adding that Thornton made statements regarding her involvement.

It's unclear how the sheriff's office connected Bynum to the crime.
