CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Here’s another sign we're slowly moving towards a post-pandemic recovery: Navy Pier is set to partially re-open on April 30.

The lakefront venue’s parking garage; North and South docks; Centennial Wheel; and select restaurants and tour boats and cruises will be operating again.

Many interior spaces — including some retail shops and restaurants — will not be open, spokesperson Payal Patel said. But there will be limited indoor seating at some of the restaurants that are open, Patel said.

"It’s been a long eight months” for the businesses, she said.

“The reopening is going to signal a moment, a turning point for Chicago.”

Navy Pier’s fireworks shows usually don’t start until Memorial Day, but this year they’ll also be every Saturday in May.  The first show will be dedicated to health care professionals and front line workers.

Mask-wearing will be required, along with physical distancing. Patel said “social distancing ambassadors” are being hired again this year to remind people about the precaution, if needed.

The partial reopening comes after the Sable Hotel on the Pier opened in March.
