CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Spring is here, Chicago!

The Department of Streets and Sanitation announced Tuesday the city’s annual street sweeping season begins Thursday.

According to the city, crews will work daily to clear debris and litter from residential streets citywide until mid-November.

“We take pride in maintaining the cleanliness of our streets,” said DSS Commissioner John Tully.  “We ask residents to help us keep Chicago clean by following parking restrictions related to street sweeping.”

The department said more than 50 sweepers will be working in communities each day of the season to ensure that every area of the city receives this service.

Residents are reminded to check for bright orange signs posted in advance announcing temporary parking restrictions during street sweeping season. Some streets also have permanently posted signs that specify a once-per-week period when parking is prohibited for street sweeping during the season.

Residents can also track the city’s street sweeping fleet in real time through the Sweeper Tracker online tool.
