(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Public Health Commissioner Allison Arwady says she's "jealous" of her state counterpart, who is stepping down. But she said she herself is staying put.

Illinois Department of Public Health Director Ngozi Ezike this week announced she is leaving March 14, with the pandemic receding. Like Ezike, Arwady has become well-known during the various phases of the COVID-19 crisis.

"I have been really thankful to have Dr. Ezike as a partner, we have talked a lot," Dr. Arwady said during an appearance Thursday.

"I told her I was feeling a little jealous of her for getting a full on vacation," she added. "But no, I am not going anywhere."

Arwady said her job is tough but rewarding. She said there is much more work to be done.

"There's nothing I would rather have been doing for these last two years, hard as they have been.  I am extremely committed to my team, this work in Chicago, and what comes next," Arwady said.

Ezike, the state health director, doesn't have a job lined up. She said she wants to spend time with her family.
