CICERO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Cicero community rallied together Sunday to protest the closing of a Catholic school.
Teachers, parents, and students are fighting to keep St. Francis of Rome School open. Last month, the Archdiocese announced the school will close after the State ended a tax credit program that provided scholarships for students.
Families held a rally outside Chicago's Holy Name Cathedral, accusing the Archdiocese of discarding school because most students are Hispanic and come from low-income homes.
According to CBS-2, the Archdiocese says the decision is out of its hands, blaming state legislators who have refused requests to continue the scholarship program.
St. Francis of Rome is set to close its doors this coming June.
