HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some Highland Park residents along Route 41 are getting help from the Lake County state’s attorney in their battle over road noise.
Rumble strips installed in the northbound lanes of Route 41 near Park Avenue four years ago are so loud nearby residents can’t sleep or use their backyards. That’s according to a noise complaint filed by the Lake County state’s attorney to the Illinois Pollution Control Board.
"It's intolerable," homeowner Bruce Nathanson tells the Daily Herald. "I walk in the morning with headsets on and I can hear the rumble strips through my headsets a mile away.
The Daily Herald reports the strips have been shown to reduce crashes by up to 60 percent and IDOT spokeswoman tells the Daily Herald they’re to alert drivers to the first traffic light after leaving the Eden's Expressway.
