(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – With air travel on the rise again, noise in the skies around O'Hare International Airport was once again an issue on Capitol Hill.
O'Hare is in the congressional district of U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley. And in a subcommittee hearing this week, the Democrat questioned the acting administrator of the FAA, Billy Nolen, about noise.
Specifically, Quigley wanted to know when the FAA will decide to take a look at the noise level that's currently permitted.
"When are we finally going to get some sense of what science and health are telling us?"
Nolen replied: "If you let me take that as an IOU and we'll certainly come back to you and your staff."
Nolen, however, has said he will step down as acting FAA administrator this summer.
“Knowing what your intentions are to do something else, I truly don't want to talk to your successor next year and have the same question answered the same way,” Quigley said.
Nolan said his staff would come back with some timelines.
