WOODRIDGE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Construction on a new police and public works facility in Woodridge is moving along three months after breaking ground.
Harbour Contractors out of Plainfield has been installing water mains, underground plumbing and geothermal wells on the new police station, salt dome, and storage facilities. That's according to an update on the project.
Chief Brian Cunningham explained in a video on the village's website that one reason why the police department felt it had outgrown the existing facility was that it was built 36 years ago. He also made the case for the new facility, arguing in the video that the layout of the interview room in the current station is a safety concern.
“One of our administrative assistant’s office is right there. So, if we had somebody that was potentially a threat to us, and they were able to come out of this room, she would be the first person that would be encountered by this person. So it’s very concerning to us,” Cunningham said.
Electrical and masonry work are scheduled next, with the facility expected to be complete by late next year. Phase two would be building a new public works facility.
