COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Coronavirus pandemic- related moratorium on evictions may have ended, but the County Circuit Court is introducing a new one to keep residents in their homes at least for the holidays.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office has been ordered to cease its execution of evictions from Dec. 17. through Jan. 3.
Sheriff Tom Dart said there will be "no evictions at all, other than emergency ones where the there's the buildings falling down or something like that." The moratorium also applies when temperatures fall below 15 degrees this winter.
"We never would evict in that weather anyway," said Dart.
