CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) says there’s a discrepancy between its investigation into a shooting involving a police officer and what the police department said happened.
It was about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police were responding to a ShotSpotter alert near 85th and Winchester. Three officers were there. The department said they saw a man standing near a home.
There was a loud bang. One of the officers fired at the men. He was not hit nor arrested.
Police initially said the man fired at the officers and that they saw flashes of light.
“COPA has not obtained any information in the early stages of its investigation that indicates a firearm was used against the officer,” said COPA First Deputy Chief Administrator, Ephraim Eaddy. “As more information becomes available, we will provide the public with an additional update, if warranted.”
COPA added that a body-worn camera captured the initial interaction and shooting.
