CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's police watchdog has released body cam video and audio from a fatal shooting by officers three weeks ago in Irving Park - evidence which suggests there was no shootout as Police Superintendent David Brown had described.

Police confront 21-year-old Isidro Valverde and shoot and kill him.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said officers shot Valverde as he began to get up and that Valverde did fire his gun.

But those who have seen the police body cam video and have been able to slow it down frame by frame say Valverde fired his gun almost simultaneously with the officers' gunshots and that Valverde's shot was into the ground.

Just after the incident three weeks ago, Police Superintendent David Brown had told reporters that "the offender fired his weapon and the officers fired their weapon."

COPA said it is still investigating the officers' use of deadly force.
