CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - More than 70 arrests were made Tuesday night during pro-Palestinian protests in downtown Chicago. That's according to the National Lawyers Guild which is monitoring the demonstrations.

On day one of the Democratic National Convention, there was a clash between protestors and a steel fence along the security perimeter of the DNC on the West Side.

Day two saw the first significant clash between protestors and police at a pro-Palestinian protest outside the Israeli Consulate in the West Loop. There were arrests in both cases.

Tuesday night, the arrests came in the 7 p.m. hour when about 30 protesters, organized by the group Behind Enemy Lines, attempted to push west on Madison toward the United Center through a wall of police in riot gear holding a line at Clinton.

Things got heated when police held the line and protesters continued pushing, but order was soon restored and the remaining protesters returned to their original rally point in front of the Israeli Consulate. They held call and response chants related to support for the people of Gaza for the next couple of hours.

They did try to push west again, but that attempt was short lived and soon after the small group dispersed.
