Questions are being raised about Chicago Police Officers being put on desk duty after a drug bust involving the niece of a high-ranking police official.
The niece of CPD Internal Affairs Chief Yolanda Talley was driving the chief's Lexus in East Garfield Park last month when officers said they saw her passenger toss 84 baggies of heroin from the car.
Body camera video from the officers, obtained by the Sun Times, has the images obscured, but the niece is heard saying, "My auntie's probably your boss. This is her car," and an officer holds the keys that have a mini police star on the ring. The niece was not arrested; her passenger was. The niece is heard repeatedly swearing at the officers.
Police took the Lexus, but it was not impounded, as is common when they're involved in drug busts. Police determined according to a report, the niece had no knowledge of the drugs and Lexus was later returned.
The Sun Times reports the officers involved were placed on desk duty without explanation. A complaint alleging misconduct was filed by another high ranking police official, and the case has been referred to the city's inspector general's office.
