CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A road trip meant to inspire Chicago high school students and debunk some myths about manufacturing and tech jobs, among other things, made a stop in Humboldt Park on Tuesday.
It's not everyday that CPS students are surrounded by 3D printers and other pieces of high-quality tech, but that was the case at Mass Persona.
Chicago Public Schools Director of Career and Technical Education Chandler Meyer-Brown caught up with WBBM as groups of high schoolers toured the Chicago-based 3D printing facility.
"We're showing that manufacturing isn't just an assembly line," he said. "It's 3D printing. You can make toys. It's really exposing students to new careers. For us adults, it's very important."
Kent Mages, Mass Persona's CEO and co-founder, said the industry needs more young people who can bring "a creative mindset to open up what this field can be."
"We're excited to just be a small part in helping some kids get exposure to this," he said. "They might not even know this industry exists."
