CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Around 34% of Chicago Public Schools workers have reported they received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine but the actual number could be more.
When the fourth academic quarter begins, the number of students returning to Chicago classrooms is expected to double those that returned this month.
But CPS Human Resources chief Matt Lyons told the Chicago Sun-Times that serious blind spots and planning exist due to a perceived lack of vaccination reporting by teachers and staff.
Lion said the actual numbers of vaccinated could be around 50 to 60%.
An attorney for the Chicago Teachers Union confirmed that the numbers may be higher than reported, citing concern among teachers that current remote working accommodations would be revoked if CPS were to know just how many teachers and staff were vaccinated.
