JOLIET, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Opponents of a proposed truck terminal near Joliet hope a judge will halt a public meeting on the plan.

Stop Northpoint is a local group that is opposed to the 2,300 acre compass global logistics hub planned for the south end of Joliet.

"Many residential and farming communities in Will County would certainly suffer the negative impacts," reads a statement on the group's website.

"NorthPoint's Compass project will make problems worse, because it promises to bring nearly 4 million more trucks per year to this already overcrowded area. As a result comes added pollution and harm to the community and environment."

When completed, the project could accommodate 10,000 semi trailers per day. Neighbors are opposed due to the potential for increased traffic tie-ups, but supporters believe it will attract jobs and tax revenue to the area.

The Herald News reported that Stop Northpoint asked a judge to issue a temporary restraining order because it contends the city of Joliet did not release all documents under a Freedom of Information Act request and that the information released by the city was too late for the public to evaluate before the meeting.
