CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — To keep up with passenger demand, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) announced that it is adding more service to several bus routes starting March 24.

Additional buses will start running on 29 routes, officials said. CTA President Dorval Carter Jr. said it's part of the agency's efforts to bring bus service back to pre-pandemic levels.

"And while this additional service will definitely benefit our customers, our job is not done — we know we have much more work to do, and we're committed to it," Carter said.

According to the CTA, most of the added service will occur during the week on routes that have experienced strong ridership recovery throughout the city.

The agency added, though, that Saturday service on the #77 Belmont and #81 Lawrence routes will also increase.

Officials said the CTA hired 1,000 new bus operators in 2023.

Later this spring, CTA officials wrote that they will work to improve scheduled rail service as more train operators complete their training.

The service map included below shows were more buses will be added to CTA routes.
