CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Late or missing CTA buses and trains have become a reality lately and it’s due to staffing shortages.
But, CTA President Dorval Carter said the service schedule has not been reduced. What has declined, he said, is the number of available employees which causes further disruption when CTA staff need to call out sick.
“The unpredictable nature of absenteeism and the fluctuating factors affecting staffing on any given day due present complexities that are not easily addressed by scheduling adjustments, and as such, we strive each day to meet our full schedule service,” said Carter.
“CTA is working aggressively to hire more staff and have implemented new initiatives to retain and hire staff,” Carter added.
Carter acknowledged that this issue is not only industry wide but applies across many industries at the moment. For now, he noted the CTA is making their best attempt at communicating unexpected service disruptions through their dedicated website.
