(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --There’s a chance that voters in one central Illinois county could elect a Circuit Court Clerk who is no longer alive.

Julie Anderson was and still is a Republican candidate for Circuit Court Clerk in Morgan County despite her death.

She died last month following a battle with breast cancer, but her name will remain on the primary ballot.

Anderson was appointed to the office last year when the former clerk retired. Should she win the primary posthumously, someone else will be appointed by party leaders.

State Board of Elections spokesperson Matt Dietrich told CBS 3 in Champaign, in this case, the Republican Central Committee of the county will have until August 22 to fill the vacancy and nomination for the general election in November.

There is a second Republican candidate, Jennifer Bonjean. If she wins, the election will continue as normal.

Illinois will hold its primary elections on March 19.
