CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - For a second straight day, fog is impacting the Chicago area, with some even experiencing dense fog.
The National Weather Service has a Dense Fog Advisory in place for all area counties- Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane, McHenry, Grundy, Kendall, De Kalb and La Salle- until 6 p.m.
The fog will be intense at times. The NWS warns visibility could be a quarter mile or less in some spots.
AccuWeather meteorologist Dean Devore explains that the foggy conditions are a result of the incoming warmer air riding on top of the existing colder, denser air.
The fog is especially strong near the lakefront.
Drivers should expect longer travel times this morning. The NWS advises drivers to slow down and increase following distance. Drivers should also turn on their low beam headlights.
Fog will continue into the afternoon and evening and will stick until Sunday
AccuWeather says these next three days will be damp and dreary, with periods of rain forecasted for today. Temperatures will approach 40 degrees.
By Sunday, AccuWeather expects a drier air pattern to arrive.
Monday, believe it or not, we could even see the sun.
