(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater has announced it’s making staff cuts in the wake of falling revenue following the COVID-10 pandemic.
Executive Director Brooke Flanagan made the announcement Thursday that the company is laying off 12 percent of employees, impacting 13 current employees and 7 open positions.
“This is a very difficult time for theaters across our country and, in fact, around the world,” she said. “We’ve been struggling since the return of the pandemic. The tough realities are that are subscription base is down by 40 percent, our single-ticket revenue is down by 31 percent, and our expenses were up by 19 percent.”
